HISTORY

At one time, almost every town in America had its own variety store.  The five and dime stores, once an institution, have all but disappeared from the American small town landscape.  In Sag Harbor, the tradition lives on.

The Sag Harbor Variety Store has been in its present location since 1922 when Edward Hansen opened Hansen’s Variety.  Philip and Roseann Bucking purchased the business in 1970.  The husband and wife “mom and pop” team built their business on the philosophy of “sticking to the basics”.  The Variety Store carries everything from pots and pans to knitting needles and sewing thread, toys and games, stationery supplies, housewares  and soft goods, lampshades, party supplies, greeting cards, seasonal merchandise, and just about everything in between.

Their daughter, Lisa Field, joined the family business in 1991.  Today, Lisa and Roseann carry on the tradition by providing their customers with an excellent selection of merchandise and superior service.
